Ask any group in your church: “Why do people not come to worship? What keeps people away from church?” You might hear:
• “We need a better youth program.”
• “We have to have a different style of worship service.”
• “We need to advertise.”
• “If only we had a nursery for young children.”
…
It is crazy to watch people forget what they heard in church week after week the moment they walk out the door week after week. I see that most often with politicians and business people who treat their churches as a weekly networking opportunity. That said, they wouldn’t do that if it didn’t work, which makes me think that many churches are nothing but weekly networking events by another name.
