— 15 year old scolding Minneapolis’ bike coordinator. Back when I worked at a bike shop in the early 90’s our commissions were largely based on accessories. If someone said they had $400 to spend, the rational thing to do would be to sell them a $300 bike with $100 in accessories. A lock, chain, bottle cage and bottle got things rolling, but a helmet really helped bump up the accessories costs. At that time, I would get the death stare from teens for suggesting that a helmet would be a good idea to their parents. Now, if this kid is the norm, leaving without a helmet wouldn’t happen.
