Deets After Dark

Last week I blogged about the fact that Chick-fil-A was finally coming to Los Angeles, when my friend Matt pointed me to this, an examination of Chick-fil-A’s ties to anti-gay groups from equalitymatters.org.
I absolutely love Chick-fil-A chicken.  They make the best nuggets in the world, no joke.  I believe Chick-fil-A to be a “good” company.  Responding to some of this controversy, CEO Dan Cathy said “We have no agenda against anyone. While my family and I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, we love and respect anyone who disagrees.”  I can respect that.  But if Chick-fil-A money is going to causes that actively fight equality and the rights of people I know and care about then Chick-fil-A is responsible, so I don’t want to eat there anymore.
Of all the things I believe in, equal rights is the one in which I will not accept opposition.  It’s fine if you support any other political position, but the idea that free adults in our society should be treated as second-class citizens is decidedly wrong.  It goes against the most central of the truths that we are supposed to hold to be self-evident.
The Supreme Court has decided that money is speech, so I am going to speak somewhere other than Chick-fil-A from now on.  I don’t care if you do, because that’s your business.  I don’t want this to sound preachy or some sort of condemnation.  This is personal choice.  I just know that chicken won’t taste the same anymore.

Adam, Steve, and their daughter Eve like chicken too. It’s a clucking shame that people fight to keep Eve from having legally married parents.
